Artist Statement continued from previous page
In New York, I worked with architects on photographing redevelopment
projects like: the 42nd Street Project in Manhattan, the TWA terminal
at JFK airport in NYC., the original Newark NJ. air terminal,
the Peter Jay Mansion in Rye NY (son of the John Jay College name), plus many
others.
Above, I explain my involvement in the two careers to show they are interwoven. When I shoot a building, a façade, a keystone, or a cornice, I have an esthetic and technical point of view.
My body of work started with film and today its all digital. Since it’s discovery, photography has always been an experiment of new and different methods.
For the last 10 years, while I paint my architectural images, I try
to shut down my analytical mind and allow my emotion and instinct to
direct my ‘computer mouse’ brush. I paint not in a conventional way.
I paint in an honest way as I do not think it, but feel it. My emotions
control my choice of color; it’s an uncontrolled display of me.
I have been influenced by working with ‘fine arts’ artists, architects,
art directors and creative directors in advertising, as well as, my own
life long studies and interests in the fine arts.
Photographers like ManRay, Ansel Adams, and Alexander Rodchenko have
had great influence on me, as well as painters like Wassily Kandinsky
and Piet Mondrian.
My experience in fine art comes not so much from a classroom, but from hands-on experience working with artists of different venues, and my own instinct and desire. I‘ve always had a feeling of wanting to pursue ‘art’ as a career, and now I am ! Now I’m trying “to live the change that I seek”.
